Dialysis can be renal replacement therapy to provide an artificial replacement for a lost kidney function due to renal failure. Dialysis might be considered by some people a life support treatment but probably does not treat any kidney diseases. Some people may have acute renal failure and may have lost kidney function because they are terrible sick. Dialysis might be used for acute renal failure as well. Dialysis treatments may have to do exactly what kidneys should do but cannot, waste removal and fluid removal. Dialysis may be done three times a week in a nice comfortable chair with two tubes attached to a persons arm. One tube to draw blood into the dialysis and the other tube to bring the treated blood back to the body. The treatment may take three hours where the patient may read, doze or watch television.
